RAG with Images! Using Prompt Engineering to Revitalize Ancient Traditions at Expo Favela

This is a short article about an incredible experience I had yesterday.
During a workshop for Expo Favela, when talking about Nano Banana, one of the entrepreneurs shared that her startup was about rescuing African traditions and asked for images to illustrate her business. A similar request was made by another entrepreneur, whose startup rescues Indigenous traditions.
As expected, for specific things with low data, the system hallucinates. But here is a simple technique with incredible results that we created by combining the collective knowledge shared in the workshop, prompt engineering, and Nano Banana's capabilities:

First, we researched (asking for grounded references/links) for symbols from Adinkra art with the following prompt (in Portuguese):
"Por favor, faça uma pesquisa sobre arte africana adrinka. Traga somente links de exemplos da arte Adrinka, com referencias seguras."
Then we took one of the patterns and asked Nano Banana to create a cushion with it.

First, we researched symbols from the Indigenous Marajoara culture (Marajoara means from Marajó, an island in the Brazilian northern state of Pará, in the Amazon Rainforest region). Prompt in Portuguese:
"Por favor pesquise simbolos indigenas marajoaras. Pesquise somente fontes reais e fidedignas como wikipedia, etc. Traga os links para que eu possa consultar."
Then we asked the system to create a dress using the pattern (Prompt in Portuguese):
"Por favor, crie o design de uma bata tendo por inspiração o icone marajoara em anexo."
The incredible result follows below.
Using Gemini and Nano Banana, we can work around hallucinations, ground the creation of images, and generate value for startups like these, which are rescuing ancient traditions that are part of the history of the Brazilian people.
I am very happy and proud to be part of it, teaching a little of what I know about prompt engineering and Artificial Intelligence, and seeing this being transformed into value for these incredible startups!
